Day of the Cabbage
Day of the Cabbage, 2005, HD Video, 10 minutes
A giant-monster movie mini-epic with an all-vegetable cast, the third in a series of "Vegetronics" live-action mini-epics. Shot on HD with real food, live vegetable characters act in miniature sets with matzo buildings and graham cracker skylines. A mysterious cabbage meteor crash-lands in a toxic supercrunch site, mutating into a hideous monster that wreaks havoc on Matzoville. Young Billy Tomato discovers the creature and tries to warn his father Dr. Bell Pepper. Can Billy help Brandco corporation come up with a solution to save Matzoville from being flame-broiled out of existence?

This was a great little one-day festival -- "so underground it's not even in New Haven!". I got the warmest welcome ever from a fest -- the director hugged me because she liked my film so much, and everyone was uncommonly friendly. I couldn't believe I was still in New England! I saw some excellent shorts, including the stunning Robota, a Lego stop-motion piece.

I attended the Faux Film Festival in Portland, Oregon, run by the Mad Martian Mike Shkolnik. Saw some great parody / spoof films, including the tremendous The Lady From Sockholm, Santa's Happy Tyme Show, and Ernie Fosselius' gut-busting Coppola spoof Porklips Now.
